Headlands, Bays and Big Views

For some of the best views in Bowen, head straight for the town’s scenic coastal lookouts, where rocky headlands, island views and sweeping bays come together in spectacular fashion.

Chase sunrise, sunset or the perfect holiday snap, there are plenty of great views to discover.

Flagstaff Hill

Take in Bowen’s coastline from Flagstaff Hill, where the outlook stretches across the Coral Sea, offshore islands and the hinterland. Look towards Kings Beach and Cape Edgecumbe, then back over the town and harbour for a different view of Bowen.

The lookout is reached by road via Margaret Reynolds Drive. If you are planning to visit with a caravan or need specific access information, check with Visitor Information before setting out.

Cape Edgecumbe viewpoints

For elevated ocean views, the headlands surrounding Horseshoe Bay and Rose Bay also offer scenic vantage points overlooking turquoise water, fringing reefs and rugged granite boulders.

Rotary Lookout looks over Horseshoe Bay, while Mother Beddock is another named lookout on Cape Edgecumbe. The Cape trails include steps and climbs; see Walks for starting points, return planning and advice on choosing your route.

Grays Bay

For a view from the shore, make time for Grays Bay.

Speaking of sunset, the best spot for that golden hour moment is Grays Bay, where you can watch the sun slip into the ocean in all its glory.
