Managed by Bowen Tourism and Business, the Bowen Visitor Information Centre is the hub for all information, service and sales covering the Whitsunday Region.

A sound knowledge of the region’s tourism product is advantageous, as well as a proven sales-oriented job history. We are looking for someone who is bright and friendly with excellent interpersonal skills. Intermediate computer skills are also necessary to be successful in this role. You will be required to work a rotating roster, which includes weekends and public holidays.

Our Organisation:

Bowen Tourism and Business is a not for profit organisation whose main role is to promote and showcase our beautiful region and its businesses.

Bowen Tourism and Business operates two information outlets in Bowen. The Bowen Visitor Information Centre on the Bruce Highway, south of Bowen, is also our head office. About 40,000 visitors stop at the busy Information Centre, adjacent to the Big Mango, every year.

The centre was established in 2001 by the Bowen Tourism and Regional Development Board. (Board structure)

Position Objectives:

The core role of the Sales Consultant is to provide outstanding customer service to our visitors whilst facilitating the booking process.

Key responsibility areas:

  • Respond to customer queries in person, via phone, mail or email providing suitable & timely information.
  • Promote Bowen and the surrounding tourist attractions and actively seek to increase sales bookings through the Centre.
  • Utilise booking systems and point of sale technology as needed to sell retail products and arrange bookings for accommodation and tours.
  • Assist with recruitment and training of volunteers and support, encourage and recognise their role in the operation of the Visitor Centre.
  • Support the Sales and Marketing Specialist by identifying potential members, promoting membership of Bowen Tourism and Business, and actively servicing existing members.
  • Liaise with service and product suppliers.
  • Assist in restocking retail products, brochures and various promotional material within the visitor centre.
  • Open and close the Visitor Centre as required including setting up for daily operation, consolidating daily takings and ensuring the Centre is kept clean and tidy at all times.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Ensure the Centre is adequately staffed by reviewing and adjusting staff and volunteer rosters on an ongoing basis.
  • Attend Bowen Tourism and Business functions such as networking nights, to interact with members and other tourism representatives.
  • Attend famils to experience  members’ products and become familiar with their business operations, facilities and staff.
  • Carry out ad hoc duties as required
