The Whitsundays plays host to a raft of events throughout the year, from family-friendly festivals to sporting events and music festivals.

One of the biggest events of the year is the Whitsunday Reef Festival, in August, which celebrates living in the heart of the reef and brings together fashion, food and plenty of family fun, with games and competitions for the kids. There is also a classic car display, parties, live music and the ‘famous’ Saturday afternoon street parade.

Spring is the Season of Sailing and where better to sail than around the 74 Island Wonders of the Whitsundays. The sailing season is heralded by two great events on the yachting calendar in August – Airlie Beach Race Week and Audi Hamilton Island Race Week.

As the temperature warms and November hits, the region comes alive with the Airlie Beach Festival of Music, on the mainland. Now in its fifth year, the festival draws thousands of music fans with top acts in the central ‘big top’ marquee right on the waterfront. Musicians also play at many bars and restaurants around the town to create a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

December in the Whitsundays is rung in with the annual Christmas Carols on the Beach, a favourite with everyone who loves a good sing-a-long and plenty of Christmas cheer! Taking place on the Airlie Beach Foreshore, the event is eagerly anticipated by residents and holidaymakers.

February sees Chinese New Year Celebrations throughout the region - a colourful celebration of culture and cuisine;

June brings the Bowen River Rodeo and Campdraft, with plenty of adrenalin-fuelled action, as well as the Dingo Beach Family Fun Day, the Whitsunday Show, in Proserpine, and the Bowen Show.

July is a great month for sport lovers, with the Bowen Offshore Superboats taking place and in fact winter in the Whitsundays is packed with sporting events including the Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon and the Whitsunday Stand-Up Paddle Board Challenge, both in May, and the Airlie Beach Running Festival in July.
